Rules of Good Conduct
Preamble
Lisieux Matriculation Higher Secondary School believes that discipline is the foundation of character formation and academic excellence. A well-disciplined environment helps students develop responsibility, respect, self-control and leadership qualities. Every student of the school is therefore expected to conduct himself or herself with dignity, sincerity and integrity at all times.
The following rules are framed to ensure an orderly and harmonious school environment. All Lisieuxites+ are expected to observe these rules faithfully and uphold the good name and traditions of Lisieux School.
1. Punctuality and School Timings
a) All students must strictly adhere to the school timings.
Monday – Friday:
Pre-KG to Grade 7 : 08.25 a.m. – 04.05 p.m.
G8 to G12 : 08.25 a.m. – 04.40 p.m.
Remedials (G8-G12) : 07.30 a.m. - 04.40 p.m.
Remedials (G1-G7) : 08.25 a.m. - 04.40 p.m.
Saturday:
Grade 1 to Grade 12 : 08.25 a.m. – 12.45 p.m.
Remedials : Same as other days
b) Third Saturday is a holiday.
c) Students must be present in their classrooms by 08.30 a.m. with all required learning materials.
d) The warning bell rings at 08.37 a.m. and the morning prayer begins at 08.40 a.m. School gates will be closed after the warning bell.
e) Students attending remedial classes must report to school by 07.30 a.m.
f) Punctuality is a mark of discipline. Students who come late must submit a written explanation from their parents. Repeated late coming will invite disciplinary action.
2. Morning Prayer and School Assembly
a) All students must participate in the morning prayer with respect, devotion and discipline.
b) The school assembly is conducted daily at 09.25 a.m..
Monday, Wednesday & Friday (KG2 – Auditorium; Grade 7 to Grade 12 – School Ground)
Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (KG1 – Auditorium; Grade 1 to Grade 6 – School Ground)
c) Students must assemble and disperse in proper lines, maintaining silence and discipline.
3. Conduct in the Classroom
a) The classroom is a place meant exclusively for learning and must be treated with respect.
b) Students must maintain silence and discipline inside the classroom.
c) Students shall greet the teacher when he or she enters the class and thank the teacher when the class ends.
d) No student shall enter the class after the lesson has begun or leave the classroom without the permission of the teacher.
e) During class hours students must not wander in corridors or disturb other classes.
4. Movement within the Campus
a) Students must maintain line discipline while entering the campus, attending assembly, or moving within the school.
b) While moving to restrooms, the canteen or other areas, students must walk in line and follow the instructions of PET instructors and duty staff.
c) During break time, students must not move in groups in an undisciplined manner.
d) Loud shouting, whistling or creating disturbances within the campus is strictly prohibited.
5. Attendance and Leave
a) Students must maintain a minimum of 85% attendance to appear for the Quarterly, Half-Yearly and Annual examinations.
b) Leave must be applied in writing in advance.
c) After returning from leave, students must submit the leave letter signed by the parent or guardian.
d) Medical leave must be supported with a medical certificate.
e) Students who take leave for more than one day must meet the Principal along with their parents and show completed class notes.
f) Students absent for more than five consecutive days without permission may have their names removed from the rolls.
6. Uniform and Grooming
a) Students must come to school neatly dressed in the prescribed school uniform on all working days.
b) Personal hygiene and grooming must be maintained according to school standards.
c) Hair must be properly trimmed at regular intervals.
d) Students who violate uniform or grooming rules will be sent home to rectify the violation, and have to come and attend the classes.
7. Language Policy
a) English shall be spoken within the school premises at all times.
b) Tamil shall be spoken only during the Tamil period.
8. Electronic Gadgets and Prohibited Items
a) Students are strictly prohibited from bringing mobile phones or electronic gadgets to school.
b) Any such item found will be confiscated and returned only at the end of the academic year.
c) Books or materials unrelated to school studies may not be brought to school without the permission of the Principal.
9. Behaviour and Respect
a) Students must show respect and courtesy to all members of the staff.
b) Students must behave properly both inside and outside the school campus, upholding the dignity of the institution.
c) Borrowing or lending money and exchanging personal belongings are not permitted.
d) Disturbing other classes under any pretext is strictly prohibited.
10. Care of School Property
a) Students must respect and safeguard school property.
b) Writing on walls, damaging furniture or defacing school property is strictly prohibited.
c) Any damage caused must be fully compensated by the student concerned.
11. Safety and Personal Belongings
a) The school will not be responsible for the loss of personal belongings.
b) Students must not bring valuables such as expensive watches, ornaments or other costly items.
c) Every student must bring the school diary daily.
12. Lunch and Parent Visits
a) Students must bring their lunch from home.
b) Students are not permitted to go home for lunch.
c) Parents are not allowed to visit students or bring lunch during school hours.
13. Participation in School Activities
a) Attendance at all official school programmes is compulsory.
b) Students are expected to participate actively in school activities and develop team spirit, leadership and a sense of service.
c) Students will study Tamil, Hindi, English and Computer Science from Grade I onwards.
14. Dispersal and After-School Conduct
a) Dispersal timings are as follows:
Pre-KG – Grade 7 : 04.05 p.m.
Grade 8 – Grade 12 : 04.40 p.m.
b) Students must leave the campus in an orderly manner after dispersal.
c) Students must proceed directly home after school and should not remain in or around the campus.
15. Safety Regulations
a) Parents are advised not to allow minors to ride motorbikes to school.
b) Students without valid driving licences are not permitted to bring bikes to school.
c) Any reckless behaviour such as racing or disturbing the public will be reported to the authorities (police).
d) Any involvement in illegal activities such as drug abuse will lead to strict disciplinary action (intimation to police) including dismissal from the school.
Discipline today shapes the leaders of tomorrow. Every Lisieuxite is expected to live this value with honour and responsibility.
